  • “I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in February of this year and immediately began looking for available therapies that I could access that would be focused on some of the common non-motor symptoms of PD. While I found quite a few online resources targeting physical exercise and gait/balance issues, there was not a great deal of resources online focusing on speech/voice therapy.

From a comment I read on the Parkinson Foundation’s webpage, I decided to explore [PHH’s] online workshop focusing on music therapy. I have found immense benefits as I’ve joined [therapist’s] students, twice a week, as she has focused on tools to strengthen and counteract the vocal degradation resulting from PD. [Therapist’s] classes are a mix of voice tone and breathing exercises, followed by working together as we sing a wide variety of songs, putting our breathing exercises to work in a practical effort. We have also been learning the aspects of correct pitch and volume levels as we sing these songs together, under [therapist’s] guidance and instruction. I’ve also had the opportunity to learn more about the role of harmony to work within the scale and musical range of these songs.” - SWP Participant
